“Red Dead Redemption 2”. One of the most awaited games of 2018. If you are a gamer then you know, most probably, how eagerly fans have waited for this. After the release and immense success of Red Dead Redemption in 2010, Rockstar Games promised its sequel. And finally, after 8 years of development here it is.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the 3rd installment in the Red Dead series. Previous two titles were Red Dead Revolver(2004) and Red Dead Redemption(2010). The latter of the two is still considered one of the best games of all time because of its immersing storyline and second to none gameplay. Gamers all over the world have the same expectations from the latest installation of the series “Red Dead Redemption 2”.
Red Dead Series is set in the time-line of American Old West. The time when the coolest people rode the best horses and dressed up wearing Fedora hats and high ankle leather boots. The storyline of each game is different though in more than a couple aspects. We’ll get to the details later. But simply saying, Red Dead Revolver is set somewhere around the 1880s, Red Dead Redemption in 1911 and the latest one, Red Dead Redemption 2 in 1899. Which makes it a prequel to Red Dead Redemption rather than a sequel.
Let’s get to the story and gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 in more detail now.
Red Dead Redemption 2 – The Story
So far Rockstar Games have not released much info, except the trailer and a few minutes of gameplay. But from our trusted inside sources, we’ve got some basic details about the theme and the links to previous installments.
The story of Red Dead Redemption 2 revolves around Arthur Morgan. He is a member of infamous Van der Linde Gang. Yes!!! Van der Linde Gang of Dutch Van der Linge, the antagonist from the Red Dead Redemption. That is our first clue about the link to the previous installment in the series. Now if you’ve played Red Dead Redemption, you remember the protagonist, John Marston, was trying to find and kill his own gang members. And what gang was it? Yes, the Van der Linde Gang. So fans of John Marston, rejoice!!! Your favorite character is coming back.
But that’s where all the links to Red Dead Redemption end.
Red Dead Redemption 2 brings a whole new world and storytelling techniques. It’s not about revenge and killings anymore. It’s more about your choices. A true role-playing game I would say. It starts with a robbery in the town of Blackwater, which goes wrong. Our protagonist, Arthur Morgan, and his gang are forced to flee and hide. With American authorities and bounty hunters at their tail, they have to rob, steal and fight to survive. The choices made by the player decide the future of Arthur Morgan and the gang. Either you stay loyal to the gang or choose your own ideals.
Red Dead Redemption 2 – New Features
- I don’t even know where to start with the new features of Red Dead Redemption 2. This game brings a whole new universe of possibilities. While it continues to use the Honor System, which changes the behavior of non-playable characters towards you according to the choices you make throughout the game, the effects and choices are completely overhauled. It’s immensely intense now. Like, if you kill a person in a game, their family members or whole tribe will start to hunt you for revenge. Every small step you take matters. Its not just an open world game. Every bit of it is connected, just like real-world scenarios.
- Non-playable characters are not just a bunch of AI bots roaming. They have actual feelings and respond to the player’s actions. I know that Red Dead Redemption had a similar feature. Towns, people, and settlements would behave according to the player’s previous actions. But now its just so much more immersing. Even your horse’s balls get shrunk in cold weather. Imagine the level of details this game is bringing.
- Which brings me to the graphics. Well, Rockstar Games have a reputation in bringing games with awesome graphics. Red Dead Redemption 2 is no exception in that case. In fact, if Red Dead Redemption mesmerized you with its graphics, Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to blow your heads off.
Here’s a picture for comparison:
The level of details and the environment they have brought now is unimaginable. Like we’ve seen lots of games in 2018 with amazing graphics but nothing compares to this. And I bow to the graphic team of Rockstar Games for this. Not only the things look better in Red Dead Redemption 2 they look ultra realistic. We’ll update more screens after the game releases.

Red Dead Redemption 2 – The Tech Stuff
So now lets talk about all the technical stuff. We’ll tell you where, when and what to expect from Red Dead Redemption 2.
So far Rockstar Games have announced its release only on consoles. That is only PS4 & XBOX One. But just like their previous big title GTA V, Rockstar Games can later announce a PC version.
In addition, there is a petition on Change.org started by PC gaming fans that you can sign if you want Rockstar Games to hear your voice. I’ll leave the link here :
Red Dead Redemption 2 is developed by a collective effort of all the studios of Rockstar Games. Which basically explains the awesomeness of this game. Its developed using the RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine). Also, Woody Jackson, who composed the score of Red Dead Redemption is back in the house. So, yeah great sound effects and background score is expected.
While Rockstar announced Red Dead Redemption in October 2016 and fans have been waiting eagerly since then. They have delayed its release multiple times since then. Originally it was supposed to release in the second half of 2017. But then they postponed it to Q1/Q2 of 2018. Now we finally have a fixed release date for the global release. That is 26th October 2018.
A multiplayer online work is also in the progress and expected to be available for beta release in November 2018.
So ready your wallets fellas, Arthur Morgan is coming and he’s here to stay in your memories for long.
