E3 2018 brought a lot of gifts for gamers. With game developers surprising people with new installments of games with huge fan-bases. We saw the teasers and trailers of the most awaited games like The Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 76, Cyberpunk 2077. They mesmerized us with the future of gaming. Among all those, there was a gem that was shining brighter for fans of a particular franchise. So Ubisoft presented us with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Eleventh major installment to the series, Assassins’s Creed Odyssey is also expected to be the most successful and shiniest one. Why so? We’ll get to that later. Let’s get started with some introduction first.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – The Intro
After years and years of fighting templars and assassins, Assassin’s Creed series moves to a new frontier. We are now part of the glorious and mythical Greek Peloponnesian War. So we step into the boots of a great Spartan warrior, a descendant of our beloved King Leonidas I. And YES you can “Sparta Kick” your enemies. So it’s time to scream “THIS IS SPARTA“.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey - PlayStation 4 Standard Edition
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set in the year 431 BCE. So basically, it is fictional history with a lot of mythological elements. Which is actually very contradictory to what Ubisoft has offered in the previous installments. The previous versions were more focused on making things look as realistic as possible. Ubisoft was totally OCD about making those games historically accurate. But times change and so do games.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – What’s New
As you can see, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the first game in the series to allow players to choose the gender of their character. And as quoted by Wikipedia, “The player will have the ability to develop romantic relationships with nonplayable characters of both genders,…”. So at least your character is not going to die single while you are immersed in this gorgeous Greek world.

This game has the most extensive player customization system so far in this series. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey introduces a new mechanism of learning new skills and abilities. It gives players the independence to choose their traits. There are three Skill Trees for improving the character. First is the “Hunter”, which focuses on the archery skills. Then comes the “Warrior”, which as the name suggests, improves combat skills. And the last one is “Assassin”, upgrading the stealth abilities.
Visual customization of the character is also more intense than last releases. Ubisoft has tried making Assassin’s Creed Odyssey more vibrant and focused on RPG elements this time. While it is not as extensive as Skyrim but still its very good and unique among Assassin’s Creed games.
The world created for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is beautiful. It’s a huge change from what we’ve seen in the past games of this franchise. Greece is created as magnificent as it is. The cherry on the top is the lighting system used by Ubisoft. The mighty Aegen Sea rushing its waves calmly, the white stone isles, alabaster cities defended by titanic statues of bronze and stone, the endless beaches. Everything looks so picturesque.
The map is also the biggest in the series. Even though most part of it is covered by the Aegen Sea. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey offers the best Open World experience we’ve seen in this series. The sheer beauty of its map and world will make players come back even after ending the storyline.
The naval combat system is also making a return and its better than ever. As most of the map is sea, many parts of gameplay also include combats in the rough waters. With naval combat, fighting on the ground is also renovated. The action is now more fluid and free-flowing as we’ve seen in Assassin’s Creed Origins. A new “War System” is also introduced. Which allows players to take contracts from mercenaries. Everything combines to create a very indulging open world gameplay.
